Current changes are coming to the Ventura County Building Code (VCBC) that will become effective January 1, 2026. 

State law requires that the latest edition of the State Building Standard Code is adopted by the County every three years.  The latest edition of the State Building Standards Code is the 2025 edition.

Therefore, the County will adopt the new 2025 California Building Standards Code as mandated by State law.

Local amendments to this State code for Ventura County are allowed by State law to be adopted into the VCBC under certain conditions and limitations. 

To keep the community informed and involved, the Building and Safety Division is hosting two public meetings where residents, professionals, and stakeholders can learn about the local code adoption process, ask questions, and provide feedback:
